As the senior vice president of maintenance & engineering (M&E) for Alaska Airlines, Constance von Muehlen leads and partners with her team on safety, compliance, operations, and financial performance of the M&E division, including leadership of all related outputs. With nearly 30 years of experience in the industry, Constance is committed to our people as much as she is to our performance. She previously served as the chief operating officer for Horizon Air, overseeing the customer service, inflight, pilot, maintenance and system operations control teams. Prior to Horizon, she was the managing director of Alaska Airlines' airframe, engine and component maintenance, overseeing vendor maintenance and store/distribution teams to ensure they delivered industry-leading safety, compliance, quality, performance and cost standards. Simultaneously, she managed Virgin America’s technical operations team and was responsible for all aspects of Airbus fleet maintenance prior to the FAA’s issuance of Alaska’s single operating certificate in January 2018.
Prior to joining Alaska, Constance held various positions at the engine manufacturer, Pratt & Whitney Canada, and also worked at Air Canada Technical Services where she led engine, accessory and airframe maintenance. Constance began her career as an aviation officer in the U.S. Army, flying Blackhawk helicopters and leading flight operations throughout the world. She holds an FAA Commercial Instrument Helicopter Pilot’s License, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations from Johns Hopkins University and is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt. Most recently, Constance graduated from the Executive MBA program at the University of Washington.
