Richard Ross is the SVP and Chief Information Officer(CIO) for Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings.In this role he is responsible for the sourcing and provision of all IT services globally. He is also responsible for cybersecurity and represents the company in cyber discussions with the Corporate Board, the DOD, the DHS, commercial partners and on Capitol Hill, where he works to help craft cyber legislation. He is Chairman of the Airlift Cyber Committee for the National Defense Transportation Association.
Mr Ross has more than 35 years’ experience in IT, as a vendor, practitioner and consultant.He has served as a CIO and Consulting CIO to companies across several industries, managing operations and participating in both deal creation and execution.
Mr Ross began his career at IBM, as a quality engineer in a semiconductor manufacturing facility, after which he moved to Wang Labs to work first in manufacturing, then in R&D and finally as engineering support to Government customers. He has also held positions at Gartner Group as a market analyst, at British Airways as a project manager, at Salomon Brothers in London and Tokyo as IT Manager, and at McKinsey and Company as a Management Consultant.He holds a B.S.E.E. in Electrical Engineering/Biomedical Engineering from Washington University and an M.S.E.E., dual major in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University. He has been a mentor to grad students in Columbia University’s Masters of IT Management program since the program’s inception in 1998.
