Previously, Mr. Winston was the Manager of Southern Region’s Flight Standards Division, which covers the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and the territory of Puerto Rico, encompasses 213,167 square miles and includes the world’s busiest airport. As Division Manager, Mr. Winston was responsible for promoting system safety by administering regulations and standards for airmen, air carriers, and air agencies in areas of Certification, Surveillance, Inspection, Investigation and Enforcement.
Mr. Winston started his employment with the FAA in 1976 with Airway Facilities as an Electronics Technician. Prior to serving as the Southern Region Flight Standards Division Manager, he worked as an Aviation Safety Inspector, with a specialty in Avionics. Over the course of 25 years, he progressed to an Air Carrier Principal Avionics Inspector, Supervisory Program Manager for Geographic Avionics, Assistant District Office Manager, District Office Manager and Deputy Division Manager for the Flight Standards Division Office before becoming the Flight Standards Division Manager for Southern Region.
